History

In the early 19th century when the need to improve African technology becomes inevitable, corporate bodies, NGOs, governmental agencies and individuals from all over the world sought the need to play significant roles in promoting development and capacity building in Africa.

It was the passion of one man to initiate a program that can improve a better life in all aspects as well as building capacity among women and youths, and changing the narrative of technological advancement in Africa. This Nigerian-Canadian ignited a program by establishing the first African Computer and Technology Literacy Awareness Program – ACTLAP, in Mississauga on the Greater part of Toronto Canada in 1995. This Canadian-trained Chemist, Clinical Pharmacologist and IT Engineer, Bevis Paul Igbinoba, conceived a rare idea to bridge the digital divides in technology between Africa and the rest of the world. His ideas are projected to promote Education, IT/ICT, Health, Child Care and Capacity building among women and youths.

The initiative finally commenced in Africa in 1997 with the Nigerian African Consulate unveiling the first ACTLAP free computer training program in the city of Benin. This gesture was very pleasing to the King of Benin kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Erediauwa Uku Akpolokpolo during a courtesy call at His Palace with ACTLAP executives in Benin, and the Oba gave an awesome parcel of land measuring 800ftx800ft to ACTLAP as a seed of His support to promote ACTLAP initiative in Benin kingdom and in Africa in general. ACTLAP initiative was further extended to other African countries including Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Senegal, Egypt, Chad, and many others. To be precise, ACTLAP has specific outreach programs in four Regions of Nigeria, Wa in Ghana and Kampala – Uganda, SINKOU Management Computer Project in Dakar and Senegal.  This expansion brought a new speed of digital intelligence to Africa when the first ACTLAP iPHONE and iTAB were launched in 2013. As of 2019, ACTLAP has evolved into a global brand with several subsidiaries and foreign partners who share a similar vision with the organization.
